Apple has developed a diving app for the Watch Ultra called Oceanic+ - it provides valuable information for divers, but also costs quite a bit.
In September, Apple presented a new rugged smartwatch, the Apple Watch Ultra. One of the first things shown during the live-streamed presentation was an Apple Watch Ultra going underwater.
The screen showed the temperature of the water and the depth measured in feet. Apple is now announcing the Oceanic+ app for the Watch Ultra, which turns the watch into a diving computer.
This is how the Apple Watch Ultra becomes relevant for divers
Oceanic+ was designed by Huish Outdoors in collaboration with Apple and gives the user access to a lot of information relevant to divers.
The Apple Watch Ultra can go down to 40 meters underwater and uses the sensors in the depth gauge and water thermometer to collect a lot of other data.
Gives a warning when diving too fast
The app shows divers a warning if they dive or ascend too fast, and it shows the estimated time it will take to get back to the surface again.
You can also set a direction for the compass during the dive, and you can get a planning function to take tide, temperature, visibility, and current into the calculations before making a dive. On the dial, you can see no-fly time, surface time, and more.
Oceanic+ uses the Taptic Engine and the large, bright screen on the Apple Watch Ultra to notify the diver of any important information during the dive.
Costs from DKK 95 per month
You can get a free version of the app with certain limitations, but you can also unlock it for DKK 95 per month or DKK 749 per year.
Family sharing is also available and is available for DKK 1,049 per year, which gives up to five people access.
Oceanic+ requires the Apple Watch Ultra to have WatchOS 9.1 and be paired with an iPhone 8 or later with iOS 16.1
