The Samsung Galaxy S23 is rumored to get satellite communications

The Samsung Galaxy S23 looks set to get satellite communications and services to support the tech, so Apple doesn't go all out on that front in 2023.

Apple put pressure on Samsung by being the first to come up with satellite communications for smartphones – at least in mainstream smartphones. Now it looks like Samsung will follow in Apple's footsteps when the Galaxy S23 is launched within the next few months.

Apple has its SOS Emergency Call feature that works via satellite on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. This is done in collaboration with the satellite company Globalstar, in which Apple has recently invested billions of kroner.

Samsung was rumored to be partnering with Iridium to bring satellite communications to the Galaxy S23.

Iridium operates a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit that provide voice and data services. Samsung expects. according to a source close to Samsung, satellite communication will not necessarily be a big success in South Korea, as it is a relatively small country of just over 100,000 km2 - Denmark, by comparison, is barely 43,000 km2.

At the same time, the country is very well covered by 5G networks and 5G services, but they believe that it can be successful in North and South America, Europe, Russia, and China, especially in the parts where the infrastructure is not very well developed.

Launch in February

According to previous leaks and rumors, the Galaxy S23 family will exclusively use a higher-binned version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and the launch will take place in the first week of February.
